Healthy Communities

Helping New Zealanders make better choices.

  • Healthy eating

As a responsible organisation, and as a major distributor and retailer of food, we believe that we have a part to play in encouraging New Zealanders to eat healthily and to balance their energy intake and output. Our aim is to encourage our customers to eat a variety of nutritious foods and to be physically active.

Our primary focus is giving customers the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, have access to affordable, nutritious foods, and sufficient product information to make well-informed decisions about their food purchases.

  • Working for healthier communities

New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square are sponsors of the Food for Thought community-based nutrition programme teaching nine to 10-year-olds healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

We're introducing a "healthy-options" range of products under the Pams brand, and are reformulating products to reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat. Our stores also encourage New Zealanders to get active in sports and community groups up and down the country.

Foodstuffs complies with all Advertising Standards Authority codes of practice, especially as they relate to advertising to children.

  • 5+ A Day

Foodstuffs supports 5+ A Day - a Charitable Trust which encourages all Kiwis to eat five or more servings of colourful, fresh fruit and vegetables every day for health and vitality.

    5plus

5+ A Day focuses its work in the education setting. Curriculum linked resources promoting awareness, understanding and knowledge of the importance of eating 5+ A Day are produced and distributed free to educators.

Our Vision is to have all New Zealanders understanding and enjoying the benefits of a daily diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables.

PAK'nSAVE

At PAK'nSAVE our policy is to provide New Zealand's lowest overall food prices. Proudly New Zealand owned and operated, our stores follow a food warehouse format unique to New Zealand supermarket shopping. We buy and stock a range of everyday products in bulk, and because we do this in such large volumes it means we can pass the savings on to you. We also work hard to reduce our in-store costs without reducing the quality of products we offer. This also means our stores have a practical and functional environment. With over 50 stores nationwide, you need only visit our fresh food departments to find great quality fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, deli and bakery items – and all at competitively low prices.
