Healthy Communities

Helping New Zealanders make better choices.

  • Eat My Lunch - feeding Kiwi kids in need

Foodstuffs is proud to have a partnership with Eat My Lunch. Customers looking for a delicious lunch or dinner can purchase a Michael Meredith designed meal as part of their everyday shop at selected New World stores, knowing that a New Zealand child will in turn be given a free school lunch.

Our partnership with Eat My Lunch makes so much sense. Like them we believe that good food is not a privilege, it’s a right. To date they have provided more than 850,000 free lunches to children in need and by offering Eat My Lunch meals in our stores we can extend the reach of this innovative social enterprise even further.

The implications for helping children across New Zealand flourish in school, thanks to learning with full tummies, is enormously positive. Given that we are in every community in New Zealand, and we have wonderful customers keen to do their bit to help out, we see our partnership with Eat My Lunch as having a hugely positive, long-term impact on the health and well-being of an important group of New Zealanders.

  • Healthy eating

As a responsible organisation, and as a major distributor and retailer of food, we believe that we have a part to play in encouraging New Zealanders to eat healthily and to balance their energy intake and output. Our aim is to encourage our customers to eat a variety of nutritious foods and to be physically active.

Our primary focus is giving customers the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, have access to affordable, nutritious foods, and sufficient product information to make well-informed decisions about their food purchases.

  • Working for healthier communities

New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square are sponsors of the Food for Thought community-based nutrition education programme teaching nine to 10-year-olds healthy eating and lifestyle habits.
We're introducing a "healthy-options" range of products under the Pams brand, and are reformulating products to significantly reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat. Our stores also encourage New Zealanders to get active in sports and community groups up and down the country.
Foodstuffs complies with all Advertising Standards Authority codes of practice, especially as they relate to advertising to children.

  • 5+ A Day

Foodstuffs supports 5+ A Day - a Charitable Trust which encourages all Kiwis to eat five or more servings of colourful, fresh fruit and vegetables every day for health and vitality. 5plus

5+ A Day focuses its work in the education setting. Curriculum linked resources promoting awareness, understanding and knowledge of the importance of eating 5+ A Day are produced and distributed free to educators.

Our Vision is to have all New Zealanders understanding and enjoying the benefits of a daily diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables.
