155 Whare Kai is among the whānau support services offered by 155 Whare Āwhina, a Whangārei charity of community advocates, lawyers and social workers helping their local communities thrive.
The organisation believes everyone has the right to access healthy and affordable food. They understand the challenges of juggling living costs and want to make sure every whānau in their community can put kai on the table.
Their social supermarket located in central Whangārei gives anyone in need of kai a dignified shopping experience. Instead of collecting a pre-selected food parcel, shoppers can choose their own grocery items from a wide selection of food and essentials in a normal supermarket environment.
155 Whare Kai is open to anyone in the wider Whangārei area in need of some extra help. This includes self-referrals, those currently being supported by 155 Whare Āwhina, and those who are supported or referred by other social service agencies. Shoppers are hosted and supported by their store assistant, with kaiārahi on hand to connect them with additional wraparound support if needed.
