Emerging Careers

Whether it’s your first time into the workforce, or you’re changing careers, we’ll support you to grow and develop.

Internships

Our Summer Internship Programme is about giving people the best possible start to their career through an immersive, 12-week, paid placement. We provide you with renowned learning and development, mentorship, and the opportunity to tackle real world business problems that help us achieve our aspiration.

We take on between 15-30 future leaders onto our programme in a variety of roles across our support centre and supply chain. Whether you’re studying or looking to take that first step in your career, our internship programme is an awesome place to start.

  • Application and onboarding steps
We open applications in July with a digital application form, followed by a video interview and then a face-to-face interview. We aim to send out all offers by early September.

Once you sign your contract, you’ll start in November that year. Between signing your contract and your start-date, we have a number of touchpoints including digital onboarding to prepare you for day one, an icebreaker event so you can meet your fellow interns and a warm welcome from your people leader so you feel part of the Foodies whānau.
  • Tips for your application
We match you to the roles we have available that year based on your study area and interests. Make sure it’s clear in your application what your interests are and your strengths. Key skills we look for are communication, problem solving, a curiosity to learn, resilience and critical thinking.

The video interview is a chance to bring your application to life and for us to get to know you. Try to stay calm and talk like you would to a friend or potential future colleague. Check your internet connection, the lighting and what’s in the background so we can easily focus on you.
  • Permanent and graduate positions
Our internship programme is a great stepping stone into a permanent position. If you’re nearing the end of your studies, we love to hire our interns after the internship programme where possible.

Over five days in July each year, participants will

  • Be inspired about the endless career opportunities in grocery retail and hear real stories from trailblazing female Owner Operators
  • Be empowered to make more informed career decisions by seeing behind the scenes of how a business runs, gaining practical exposure to retail leadership, and having one-on-one mentoring.
  • Be equipped with entrepreneurial skills for the future, confidence, and new-found friends and professional connections that will last a lifetime.
